Maldives Minister of Defense and National Security, Mariya Ahmed Didi and Ambassador of the Unites States of America to the Maldives, Alaina B. Teplitz discussed further expanding cooperation "in tackling scourge of terrorism in the South Asian region."
Ambassador Teplitz on Monday paid a courtesy call on Minister Mariya and held extensive discussions on deepening support especially in tackling the scourge of terrorism as well as radicalization in the region.

During the meeting that took place at the ministry, the US Ambassador and Maldives Minister also held extensive discussions on ways to further strengthen the military ties between both countries.
The meeting was also joined by US Assistant Secretary of Defense, Randall G. Schriver.
Alongside a delegation from the US, Maldives Vice Chief of Defense Force, Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef and Defense Attaché of the US to the Maldives, Lieutenant Colonel Douglas also joined the meeting.
