A bus operated by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has collided into a parked car in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumale on Thursday.
While the collision left the car severely dented beyond use, RaajjeMV understands that the accident occurred at around 2:20 pm on Thursday. The car driver told media that the bus had hit his car while he was getting out to drop his child to school.
Following the collision, the car had crashed into a pickup parked in front of it.
While no injuries were reported following the crash, the car driver is cited to have fallen asleep while driving.
This is the second accident involving an MTCC bus this week, with one running over and killing a Ukrainian tourist on Monday.
The MTCC driver who had fallen asleep behind the wheel was arrested and remanded for three days.
There have been complaints of safety issues on the MTCC-operated buses, with increased reports of speeding and reckless driving.
Despite this, MTCC maintains that their drivers "are not overworked."
