Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage has begun cleaning the historic Old Friday Mosque on Sunday, days ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan.
In a tweet, the ministry stated that they are cleaning, re-applying white sand and repainting the mosque and its complex as per the customary practice for Ramadan.
The ministry thanked the Housing Development Corporation, the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure, Male’ City Council, and volunteers for their assistance.

Cultural Minister Yumna Maumoon joined the cleaning initiative along with State Minister Mohamed Thoriq, Deputy Minister Ahmed Muhsin, Cultural Heritage Manager Ahmed Hashim, and Research Analysts Alaa Didi and Najih Mohamed.
The Old Friday Mosque or Hukuru Miskiy is over 300 years old, making it one of the oldest and largest coral stone mosques in Maldives and is on the tentative UNESCO World Heritage cultural list.
