Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has said that the government will ensure that workers receive a wage that its “adequate” to their work.
Sending Labour Day greetings via Twitter on Wednesday, Shahid said that the incumbent “values the [workers’] contribution to the economy and state.”
“We will protest your rights, we will ensure your wage is adequate to your work,” he said, urging all “to keep Maldives moving forward.”
While the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s legislative agenda for the 19th parliament includes setting a minimum wage, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Wednesday formed a ‘Salaries and Wages Advisory Board.’
The five-member board is to advise the president on a minimum wage, after conducting thorough research.
