WAMCO conducting internal audit over complaints of reckless driving

Drivers responsible for recklessness will be penalised

WAMCO says the audit will be completed within two weeks

The state-run Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) is looking into complaints of its vehicles being driven recklessly, managing director Adam Mohamed has said.

WAMCO’s announcement of an internal audit comes after a video of a driver speeding on a road in capital city Malé was uploaded on social media.

Comments on the video claim that such a manner of driving is common for drivers employed by WAMCO.

Adam says that the internal audit will be completed within two weeks, and those responsible for reckless driving will be penalised.

Responding to allegations of WAMCO employees being harassed while on duty, Adam said no employee has reported such a case.

WAMCO employees sweepers to clean roads, who are often on duty throughout the night. Most of these employees are women.

Adam said that to ensure their safety, a number of employees to supervise them are being hired.
