114 parliamentary candidates have so far submitted their financial statements, states the Elections Commission (EC).

EC Vice President Amjad Mustafa told RaajjeMV that 114 out of 386 candidates of the last election have submitted their financial statements by Saturday afternoon.

The deadline to submit the financial statements is 12am.

The Elections (General) Act states that a report relating to the financial matters of the election of the candidate should be submitted to the Elections Commission within 30 days from the date of election.

Candidates who fail to submit their financial statements within the deadline face prison sentences between six months to two years or a fine ranging between MVR 6,000 and MVR 24,000.
