Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim has scheduled the last sitting for the ongoing 18th tenure of Parliament, for month-end.
Speaker Qasim who is the MP-elect for Maamigili constituency for the upcoming 19th Parliament, set the date for the last sitting at 9am on 29th April, a Monday.
“Parliament will officially proceed for the next two days. The last sitting will be held at 9am on 29 April” said Qasim.
While the ongoing tenure is coming to an end, the 19th Parliament is set to begin in June, with the members elect scheduled to be sworn in on 28th May.
During the Parliamentary Elections held in early April, main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had secured 65 out of the 87 seats, a whopping majority.
Coalition partner Jumhooree Party (JP) and opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) won five seats each respectively while opposition coalition partner People’s National Congress (PNC) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) won two seats and seven independent candidates also won seats.
