United Nations resident coordinator for the Maldives, Shoko Noda, has met with Vice President Faisal Naseem and the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
The President’s Office announced after the meeting that the vice president and UN coordinator discussed democratic reforms in the Maldives.

While her visit to the ECM is described as a ‘farewell’ call, Noda last week called on Home Minister Imran Abdulla at his office at the Adhaalath Party headquarters.
Noda also met with several others politicians, including parliament speaker Qasim Ibrahim, Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon, who is also the parliamentary representative to the Judicial Services Commission, a statutory oversight body, and members of the former ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.
The United Nations was highly critical of former president Abdulla Yameen’s regime, particularly following the imposition of a 45-day state of emergency that curtailed constitutional rights, and allowed law enforcement officers to act with violence against anti-government protestors.
