Ex-Commissioner Riyaz to be questioned by presidential inquiry commission
Riyaz has been criticized for failing to follow through on his earlier vows to release more information on Dr. Afrasheem’s case

Presidential Commission on Disappearances and Deaths has decided to summon former police commissioner, Abdulla Riyaz, for questioning.

The commission confirmed this in a tweet on Sunday, responding to questions whether the Kinbidhoo constituency MP has been questioned.

"Has not been summoned, but will be," reads the tweet.

Riyaz was the head of the police service when religious scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali was murdered in 2012.

In a recent television apperance, Riyaz said that there is no more unpublicized information on the case and so there was no need for him to personally go to the presidential commission. He had previously indicated that he had fresh details regarding Afrasheem's murder, claiming that it was "not the right time" to reveal them.

He has since been criticized for failing to follow through on his earlier vows to release more information on Dr. Afrasheem’s case.

Dr. Afrasheem was stabbed to death in the stairwell of his house in Male’ in October 2012. While two were charged, Hussain Humaam was the only one convicted of his murder.
