Security has been strengthened across the Maldives after the series of coordinated attacks in neighboring Sri Lanka.
Police commissioner Mohamed Hameed and defence chief Major General Abdulla Shamaal announced this at a press conference on Sunday.
Commissioner Hameed said that is no immediate threat to the Maldives but they are working on tightening security.
This includes strengthening security procedures in Velana International Airport, and Gan International Airport in Addu City, and the HDh. Hanimaadhoo International Airport, said defence chief Shamaal, adding that they are meeting the relevant authorities and stakeholders to take immediate measures.
Commissioner Hameed said they are discussing with Sri Lankan authorities on guaranteeing the safety of Maldivians living in the neighboring country.
