A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Maldive Gas and Prison Cooperative Society in order to provide more labor opportunities for inmates and better their rehabilitation process.
Under the agreement, inmates will be tasked with repairing gas cylinders that belong to the company. The agreement was made for a span of two years.
Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) revealed that the motive behind tasking inmates with such work is to make them socially responsible and productive individuals. It also aims to prepare inmates for the work environment and pave way for career opportunities.
Corrections stated that they will be given wages under the agreement.
