MDP to celebrate election victory on Saturday
While the Elections Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary election on Thursday, MDP has secured 65 seats

Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is to celebrate its overwhelming victory in the parliamentary election, this Saturday.

The party said that it will be holding a “special event” in capital Malé City, at 8:30pm on Saturday.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will attend the event, as well as MDP’s leader former President Mohamed Nasheed; who won the Central-Mahchangolhi seat in the election.

While the party is to have a grand event to celebrate its victory, events are being held across the country since election day.

That night, a number of MDP supporters gathered in the capital city to celebrate, along with a number of newly elected MPs and President Solih.

While the Elections Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary election on Thursday, MDP has secured 65 seats. It won only 26 seats in the 2014 parliamentary election.
