Only 2.2 percent were invalid votes

Elections Commission of the Maldives has announced final results of the Parliamentary Elections held on Saturday.

While the commission began announcing results on Thursday afternoon, it concluded by evening.

According to the general elections act, the ECM has to announce the final results within seven days after the elections are held.

87 candidates have been listed down for the 19th tenure of parliament, set to begin in May. 215،053 out of the 264،442 eligible voters had come out to cast their votes in Saturday’s polls. This is over 80 percent voter turnout which in the ECM’s words, is the biggest voter turnout ever experiences in a Parliamentary Election in the Maldives history.

ECM also announced that the number of invalid votes in the polls is 2.2 percent.
