MP Mohamed Aslam, who defended the North-Hithadhoo constituency seat in Saturday's parliamentary elections, said that he is ready to be the Speaker "if Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) approves."
After MDP received supermajority in the election, party leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed said that Aslam has the capability to be the speaker.
Speaking to RaajjeMV on Tuesday, Aslam said he will accept if MDP decides that he is suitable to be the speaker, adding that it would be an honour for an Addu City MP to receive the position.
The preliminary results show that MDP won 65 out of 87 seats in Saturday’s parliamentary election, granting the main ruling party supermajority.
