Two knife wielding men wearing helmets were arrested in capital city Male’ on Friday night.
The police media officer said they were arrested at 10:44pm after receiving reports of them standing near Happy Market while wearing helmets and holding knives.
Officers who arrived at the scene saw that they had attempted to flee using a motorcycle but had crashed near Green Building.
The driver was arrested on the spot and the passenger was apprehended near Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s canteen while running away.
The suspects are two men aged 20 and 22, who have been remanded for 10 days.
In a similar incident on March 25, two 22-year-old men were arrested in Fuvahmulah for stabbing a 17-year-old.
Assailants had also mugged three foreigners of over MVR 6,000 and three phones in March.
