MDP candidate's campaign site set ablaze in Fonadhoo
It was extinguished before is spread further
Incident occurred in the late hours of Thursday

A campaign site representing a candidate fielded by main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been set ablaze in the late hours of Thursday night.

Famed attorney and MDP’s candidate for Fonadhoo constituency, Moosa Siraj’s campaign site “Jazeera Jagaha” was set ablaze at around 12am on Friday.

RaajjeMV understands that the fire had been controlled before it could spread throughout the thatch-roofed site.

Siraj revealed that his campaign site was set ablaze at a time he had gone to the airport to welcome Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment to the island.

He also revealed that some residents had spotted the fire and extinguished it before it destroyed anything inside.

This comes at a time there has been several attacks of vandalism to MDP’s campaign sites across the country. Some MDP candidates were also threatened and their campaign activities were also obstructed within the past few weeks.

Following this, former President and coalition leader Mohamed Nasheed had urged all candidates running for the parliamentary election through MDP to ignore the attempts of slander and to not respond to them.
