Special Operations (SO) officers have received training to maintain security during the parliamentary election on Saturday.
The police service stated that the training programme was held for two days starting March 31, in Hulhumale’.
The officers have been provided information on the security procedures at the polling stations on Saturday and the actions to be taken during emergency situations in the islands.
Officers have also been trained to coordinate with the Elections Commission and the public to keep the peace and to protect people and their belongings during emergencies.
Senior members of the police service were the instructors and oversaw the officers complete various drills in the training programme.
501 ballot boxes will be placed in the parliamentary election; 144 in capital city Male’, 307 in the atolls, 33 in island resorts, five in prisons, four at industrial zones, and eight overseas.
264,589 people are eligible to vote and 386 candidates are vying for 87 seats in the election.
