First Lady Fazna Ahmed has inaugurated the Endometriosis Association of Maldives.
The association was inaugurated at a ceremony at Maagiri Hotel on Sunday night.
The First Lady uploaded the association’s first Instagram post at the ceremony.
Endometriosis is a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus - the endometrium - grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis, and rarely, endometrial tissue may spread beyond pelvic organs.
One in 10 women suffer from Endometriosis, which can cause severe pain, especially during menstrual periods, and fertility problems.
The Endometriosis Association aims to raise awareness of this common disorder and provide help.
At the ceremony, the association’s chairperson Fathimath Mizna Ali held an information session for the participants, which included medical experts and members of organizations.
