Three men who were arrested while attempting to flee with the younger sister of Aminath Shima Nafiz, who went missing at sea in mid-February, have been remanded by an additional 15 days.
The police service confirmed that their remands were extended by Gan Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
The group of men, in their twenties, were arrested near Six Senses Resort while attempting to flee with Shima’s 16-year-old sister on a dinghy with their faces covered.
The group included Ibrahim Fazeel, who had been operating the vessel escorting Shima to Maamendhoo on the day she went missing.
On February 22, Shima boarded a flight from Male’ to Fonadhoo and then attempted to travel to Maamendhoo on a dinghy being steered by Fazeel, who after the dinghy overturned, placed her on top of it and swam to a nearby resort.
