The Male’ City Council has decided to add a new layer of soil in Aasahara cemetery over the lack of burial space.

The city council has asked that the families of the deceased buried at the eastern side of the cemetery to claim the tombstones before the end of March.

Authorities will take the unclaimed tombstones before filling the eastern side of the cemetery.

Aasahara cemetery was filled with new layers of soil four times before over the lack of burial space.

The previous administration had made the decision to bury the deceased in Hulhumale’ but reversed the decision after public complaints over transport difficulties, since the bridge had not been built.
