The government will not tolerate any speech that deliberately hinders Maldives’ good relations with her national allies, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said.
President Solih said this on Saturday morning while speaking at a campaign event for Mohamed Kaarim, the Maldivian Democratic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the Naifaru constituency.
At the rally, President Solih discouraged his supporters from engaging in such speech against nations that the Maldives has ties with, and against political rivals as well.
Having said this, President Solih said it is a responsibility that one must uphold, and that the government will not infringe on people’s rights to free speech and assembly.
Further, President Solih reiterated that the government will uphold the interests of all parties in the government coalition.
Solih had said this amid conflict between the Maldivian Democratic Party and coalition partner Jumhooree Party over the upcoming parliamentary election.
