Transport Minister Aishath Nahula has said that she refuses to support any of former President Abdulla Yameen’s parliamentary candidates.

Minister Aisha said this at an event in Hulhumale’ on Wednesday evening in response to a question posed by RaajjeMV.

She said that she refuses to “even forgive” Yameen for his actions as president and that she will continue to defend the current government.

Qasim Ibrahim, one of the leaders of the government coalition and Minister Aisha’s husband, has announced that his party JP will be working with Yameen’s opposition coalition in the parliamentary election. While Yameen was recently arrested over money laundering allegations, Qasim called for his release last week

The JP leader was jailed back in 2017, while Yameen was in power, after being found guilty of bribery. Qasim himself had said his imprisonment was politically motivated and had called for Yameen’s arrest numerous times. His son, Siyad Qasim was also taken in to custody and released with conditions 162 days later. Minister Aisha’s political career launched after their arrests, fighting for their freedom.
