Council members of Dhiffushi island in Kaafu atoll have discussed bringing a solution to the soil erosion issue in the island.

The meeting with the island council members were held at the President’s Office on Wednesday.

Members had briefed the President on ongoing and future development projects for the island and shared the concerns of island residents regarding the current situation of the island.

Some of the concerns noted were the condition of the council premises, which in the members' words is in dire need of reconstruction, soil erosion, and lack of land to provide for the community.

For this reason, they had also requested from the government to speed up the land reclamation work in the island so as to provide more land for housing.

Shedding light on the need of an ATM in the island, the members also stressed that they are in need of new and improved health services in the island health center.

Further, members stated that the youth community are in need of a recreational facility on the island.

Highlighting that the need to establish a police station is important, members asked the government to provide police services in the island.

Following the briefing, President Solih had assured the members that his government will work to bring a solution to the issues at hand after discussing it with the ministries and relevant institutions.
