The European Union (EU) delegation in the Maldives gave their guarantee that the tariff on local fish in the European market will be reduced, Foreign Minister Shahid has said.

Minister Shahid told a press conference on Monday that the the delegation had agreed to reduce the 24 percent tariff on Maldivian fish in the European market. 

The foreign minister further said that the government and the delegation has discussed means to make travelling between regions easier. 

Shahid said that Europe is an economically important ally to the Maldives, and that further cooperation is welcomed.

The delegation of European Union Ambassadors held a policy dialogue with the Maldives at Kurumba Island Resort on Monday. 

Cooperation in industry and Maldives’ political situation were discussed at the policy dialogue.
