Ahmed Nasheed has resigned as Sports Commissioner.
Speaking to Raajje.mv, Nasheed said he resigned due to personal matters holding him back from his duties as commissioner.
Nasheed became the nation’s first Commissioner of Sports on 24 April 2016.
The sports commissioner is appointed for a four-year term by the president on the recommendation of the minister in charge of sports and the National Sports Commission.
According the law on sports, the sports commissioner is responsible for overseeing the registration of all the competitive sports clubs and associations and upholding their regulations.
The sports commissioner also has the power to take steps - under the regulations in the sports laws - against all individuals, clubs and associations involved and all of the competitive sports that takes place in the country.
