A 36-year-old has been arrested in a drug enforcement operation carried out in Himmafushi island of Kaafu atoll.
According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), their intelligence unit and the Himmafushi Police Station had jointly conducted an operation following which they arrested the 36-year-old from the island’s beachside on the 9th of March.
The arrest comes after being tipped off, police revealed.
Upon sighting the officers, the man had tossed away the 25 rubber packets suspected to contain narcotics, which are now under police custody.
The man has since been remanded by seven days by the Himmafushi Magistrate Court.
Police are currently investigating the case.
