The main ruling party’s plan was unveiled by Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sadiq at an event on Thursday night.

At the event, Mayor Sadiq said that MDP’s plan was made after deep discussions with Addu City residents and organizations.

He said that they want Addu to be a sustainable city that provides a high-quality of living and entrepreneurship opportunities.

He highlighted that MDP takes special priority in increasing job opportunities and income by expanding the local tourism industry, increasing the number of guesthouses, and developing tourism-related businesses.

He said that the party aims to make Addu City a business hub and create over 500 jobs in higher education and technology sectors, and that they plan to increase the current 7,000 metric tons of fish caught by Addu fishermen to 15,000.

MDP plans to introduce 100% organic farming, provide a complete education to students, affordable energy, as well as develop sewerage and waste management systems, he said, adding that the party will also focus on social housing and building a sanctuary for endangered birds.

He said the party will also promote a healthy lifestyle as well as improve medical services by developing highly skilled doctors and nurses.

MDP also plans to allow flights to and from Gan, increase the average internet speed to 100 Mbps, eliminate traffic-related deaths, and increase the Addu port traffic by four-fold, he added.
