A civil service employee at the Maldives Police Service has been arrested in an operation carried out by their ‘drug enforcement department’. 

The police’s media official says that the employee is suspected of being involved in a recent attempt to smuggle an illicit substance into the Maldives. 

A 26-year-old foreign individual, who was found with said substance in his luggage, was arrested while at the Velanaa International Airport. 

Two others Maldivian, of ages 29 and 30, have been arrested as well. 

The four suspects have been remanded for a period of 15 days.
