EC receives complaint over defaced MDP posters

Elections Commission (EC) has received a complaint that posters of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are being defaced.
A private party has claimed that MDP’s parliamentary election campaign posters are being defaced by Abdulla Abdul Hakeem, Jumhooree Party (JP)’s candidate for Naifaru, and his campaign team member Abdulla Wadeef.
The complaint states that the defaced posters are being shared on Facebook and Viber groups, and as evidence, included an MDP campaign poster with the photo of a JP candidate.
Article 29(b) of The Elections General Act states that, during a campaign to get support for a particular candidate, no one should do anything to encroach on the election rights of any other candidate, nor should anyone use untruthful information regarding another candidate.
