The voter re-registration window for the upcoming parliamentary election has been extended to 10pm, Saturday.

The re-registration window originally was to end at 3pm.

Elections Commission (EC) spokesperson Ahmed Akram said they extended the deadline due to popular request and that 8,500 voters have re-registered so far.

EC opened this opportunity for voters wishing to vote in a location different to the one in last year’s presidential election.

Voters will be unable to change the location after the voter’s list is publicized.

Ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had helped voters with the re-registration process.

507 ballot boxes are to be placed in the parliamentary election, for which 264,589 people are eligible to vote.
