Search still ongoing for 19-year-old missing at sea

MNDF has since begun using a diving robot to find her

The search began on Friday

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has revealed that they have covered five miles of the ocean in search of Aminath Shimaa Nafiz who went missing at sea after her dinghy overturned while travelling from Fonadhoo island in Laamu atoll on Friday evening.

An air-route search had been conducted by helicopter near Six Senses Resort, close to where the 19-year-old went missing.

A search party comprising of helicopters, a diving team, and a coastguard ship began searching for her earlier this week.

MNDF also began using a diving robot in search of the girl, a student at Maamendhoo School who on Friday boarded a flight from Male’ to Fonadhoo and then attempted to travel to Maamendhoo on a dinghy being steered by a boy from Laamu Gan.

After the incident, the boy placed her on top of the overturned dinghy and had swum to Six Senses Resort.
