The government’s joint parliamentary group (PG) will decide on voting for the bill to empower presidential commissions at a meeting on Monday, says PG leader Abdulla Riyaz.
Voting on the commission empowerment bill is to take place at Monday’s sitting.
43 members are required to be in attendance during the vote call, since the bill affects the public.
Riyaz said that they have not assessed the current opinions of PG members after the publication of the investigative report on the MMPRC embezzlement case.
He said that the PG members have been asked to attend the meeting before Monday’s sitting, and that while he is unable to talk on behalf of other members, he himself wants to pass the bill.
Some members of coalition partner Jumhooree Party (JP) have voiced discontent over ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) contesting almost all seats in the parliamentary election. After which, the coalition failed to gain enough support from MPs to hold an extraordinary sitting to pass the bill.
