‘Olympus’, the decades-old state theatre in capital city Malé, has been transferred to authority of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Heritage.

This change is part of the government’s response to a forum with operators in the local film industry, says State Minister Mohamed Thoriq.

In April last year, Olympus was transferred to the state broadcaster, Public Service Media (PSM).

Thoriq told RaajjeTV on Wednesday night that many participants at the forum, held on 28th January, had criticised PSM.

Thoriq said most of them wished for Olympus to be transferred out from under the authority of PSM.

PSM, since it was put in charge of the theatre, has slashed rent fees by half and announced plans to improve their sound system.

Olympus is the only state-run theatre in the capital, and was opened in 1959.
