FAM refuses to hold extraordinary congress
The purpose of the extraordinary congress is to take a vote of no-confidence against FAM’s leadership
FAM asks member clubs to refrain from joining minister Mahloof's unlawful activities

Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has refused Victory Sports Club’s request to hold extraordinary congress.

In a press release on Friday, FAM stated that it has decided not to hold the extraordinary congress, which is to take a vote of no-confidence against FAM’s leadership.

FAM stated that it made the decision after consulting with the international football governing body, FIFA.

In the press release, FAM highlighted that it has already announced that the yearly congress will be held on March 25, at which any football club can share their concerns, and that therefore there was no purpose in holding an extraordinary congress beforehand.

FAM also stated that FIFA has warned that Maldives might have to be suspended if member clubs and Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Development Ahmed Mahloof continue to intrude on the workings of FAM.

FAM also stated that minister Mahloof has not discussed anything with them directly and so urges him to halt his unlawful action and asks member clubs to refrain from joining such activities.
