Five members in the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) council have handed in their resignations.

President of the MDA women’s league Nazeera Ibrahim, Sports Ambassador Mohamed Anees and council members Hurushid Thaufeeq, Abdulla Ziyad and President of the party’s youth wing Ahmed Reehan had resigned from their posts.

The former president of the youth wing told RaajjeMV that many members of the youth have been observed to be parting from MDA and that he believes the reason behind this is because the party is inactive in conducting political activities and because they do not see a future with the party.

MDA had formed a coalition with other political parties to win majority in the 18th tenure of Parliament. However, the party is not observed to be campaigning with other parties for this year’s Parliamentary Election.

On Monday, the party gave tickets to eight members to contest in the election scheduled for the 6th of April.

They are yet to reveal how many constituencies they are running for in the 19th tenure of Parliament.
