Ambassador of India to the Maldives, Akhilesh Mishra is an instrumental figure to renew the dynamism in the ties between both countries, said Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.
In a tweet after bidding farewell to the Indian Ambassador, FM Shahid stated that Maldives recognizes the key achievements during the Indian Ambassador’s term in office.
It is notable that the relations between Maldives and India had vastly soured during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen due to China’s growing influence in the country.

Relations between Maldives and India were renewed when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office in November 2018.
Before his departure, Ambassador Mishra had paid courtesy calls on President Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem as well as FM Shahid and other government officials.
During the call, FM Shahid had expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives for Ambassador Mishra’s efforts.
Mishra, during his term had worked tirelessly to uphold the relations between the people of both countries, although the governments were locked in dispute during Yameen’s administration due to India’s consistent appeals on the Maldives to implement a Supreme Court ruling issued to release political detainees.
Mishra assumed office in 2016 and following the end of his term, he has been replaced by Sanjay Sudhir.
