The Elections Commission says it is now reviewing complaints over their current compilation of the voter’s lists for constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The commission announced on Sunday that it has received a total of 1,256 complaints, which they will be attending to individually.
A list is to be publicised again on 15th February, and the commission will allow the submitters of said 1,256 complaints to address the list for a period of 10 days.
A total of 264,589 voters are currently registered for the upcoming ballots, scheduled for April 6th. The commission adopted the registry from the presidential elections held in September 2018.
While the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party is fielding 86 candidates to all but one constituencies, EC has rejected the applications of 10. Jumhooree Party will be contesting for at least 44 seats, just enough for a majority and several incumbents.
Other parties in the government coalition as well as the formerly ruling Progressive Party of Maldives are contesting in the election.
