Three senior members of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have failed to receive tickets on Friday’s primary election.

Members of both PPM and its coalition partner, the People’s National Congress (PNC) ran in the joint primary election.

Former Central Fuvahmulah MP Shifaq Mufeed ran for the Alifushi constituency and received 148 votes, which is 47 less than the winner, Ahmed Hussain.

Former deputy youth minister Naif Shaukath, who ran for Thulusdhoo constituency, received 136 votes while his opponent, former deputy home minister Ahmed Siddhiq won with 203.

Former Fenaka director Muaz Haleem, who ran for Kimbidhoo constituency, lost against Ahmed Khaleel.

Mariyam Juhain won the Mulak ticket while former MWSC managing director Fazool won Felidhoo against three opponents.

The coalition has given tickets to 63 candidates without holding a primary election. They include current MPs and senior officials of former President Abdulla Yameen’s government.
