The state-run Great Malé Industrial Zone Limited, which manages industrial activities in Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu, has begun enforcing a longer maternity leave policy.

The company announced on Tuesday that the new policy is now being implemented, in line with the government’s pledge.

The pledge to provide six months of paid maternity leave for state employed staff who are expecting, with a month of paid paternity leave, was included in the new government’s first 100-day agenda.

Previously, state employed women who are new mothers can only take month-long maternity leave.
