Three ministers have decided to leave Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) over how the party is being run.

Heritage Minister Yumna Maumoon, Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed, and Housing Minister Aminath Athifa left PPM over issues with how the party is being run.

They were members of PPM when they were appointed as ministers.

In a tweet on Tuesday, minister Yumna said that she has sent a letter of resignation from PPM because the party is being run against its own rules and regulations, and also assured that she will keep working for reform despite the obstacles.

The Supreme Court has recently dismissed a court case requesting that PPM’s leadership be returned to former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the party’s founder and Yumna’s father.

Maumoon is currently working to form a new party called the Maldives Reform Movement.
