Nasheed assures coalition government 'will not collapse'

The coalition government will not collapse, assures Mohamed Nasheed, former president and leader of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Nasheed said this while discussing the current conflict between the coalition leaders, on RaajjeTV's morning show Fashaairu on Thursday.
Some senior members of Jumhooree Party (JP), the second largest party in the coalition, have condemned MDP for deciding to contest almost all seats in this year's parliaentary elections, which they say is against the coalition's agreement to distribute the seats with the parties.
On Thursday's TV show, Nasheed said that the coalition is still quite stable and that the coalition members are still talking with each other and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
He said that MDP wholeheartedly believes in the agreement made with the coalition but that they did not make a particular deal on how the parties should run in the parliamentary election.
He also said that MDP's decision to run in all constituencies is in accordance with the wishes of the people, adding that the people should be the ones to decide who they want to represent them in parliament.
While JP leader Qasim Ibrahim has threatened to defect to the opposition, the Maumoon Reform Movement and Adhaalath Party have urged to maintain the coalition.
