The government said that it will be distributing 5,000 helmets

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has opened for tender a project to supply motorcycle helmets.

Interested companies must make an initial proposal by 10:00am on 27th January. The government has previously said that will be distributing 5,000 helmets.

A number of accidents have occured at the Sinamalé Bridge linking capital city Malé to Hulhulé island, and the highway connecting it to Hulhumalé.

The Transport Ministry has said that all motorcyclists and their passengers will be required to wear a helmet when using the bridge and highway, starting March 10th.
