Azha Zameer, wife of Male’ City council's Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef, has been appointed as the president of the city's women’s development committee.

Zulaikha Ali was appointed as the 15-member committee’s vice president.

The appointments were made at a signing ceremony held at Rasrani Bageechaa on Wednesday night.

Azha has a Bachelor’s Degree as well as a Master’s in Business Administration.

In addition, she has also attained a Masters in Gender and International Relations.

The new President of the Women’s Committee previously served as an Assistance Director at the Ministry of Education from 2014 to 2017.

It is compulsory to form a committee for the progression of women in every island under it’s council, in accordance to the regulations that allow administrative divisions to be run in a decentralized manner.

The committee is tasked with directing various business communications, conducting different activities for women empowerment and to promote women’s rights among many others.
