'Many challenges being faced while providing bus services'

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed that the company is working tirelessly to improve and develop the bus services they are currently providing in capital city Male’ and outlying atolls.

At a press conference held by the company on Tuesday. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shahid Ali revealed that they are currently providing bus services in Gan, Isdhoo, Kalhaidhoo and Fuvahmulah while they have expanded their bus services to Addu city.

Although the company is facing many challenges in providing bus services, CEO Shahid stated that they are currently working to improve bus facilities.

As such, the company is seeking public opinion on how they may expand bus services, with its employees immediately attending issues that are currently surfacing.

MPL needs the full cooperation of citizens when dealing with these issues, said Shahid.

Stating that many have stressed that a fee of MVR 300 is being taken from school students in Addu City for bus service while students in Male’ acquire the services for free, Shahid highlighted that the services being provided in Addu and Male’ are two different services.

As such, a fee of MVR 300 is being taken for a special bus service specialized for student transport whereas this fee is not taken from the buses providing public transportation in Addu. Shahid added that this service is yet not available in the capital city.
