Religious scholar Sheikh Zaid to be summoned to police

Prominent religious scholar Sheikh Ali Zaid is to be summoned to police headquarters on Sunday night.

Zaid told RaajjeMV that he received the summons for 8pm for reasons undisclosed.

On twitter, he said that there were some who were spreading lies about him and that anything he has actually said would also be on his Twitter page. He expressed concern that people defaming him are not being investigated and asked the police service to be fair in their conduct.

Zaid’s summons comes at a time when the police have begun investigating hate speech and threats on social media.

Minivan Radio journalist Aishath Aniya and Facebook page “Siru Arts” admin Mohamed Siruhan have also been summoned for this reason.
