State-run primary schools this week are preparing the start of the new academic year.

In Jamaaluddin School, the management has prepared three new classrooms for use, which were furnished and decorated during December holidays.

The school’s staff have also started work to arrange for the start of the new session, having finalized syllabuses and printed them out for the convenience of students and their parents.

Principal Hassan Mohamed said that the school will handover textbooks to parents within the week as well.

In Imaduddin School, staff have been furnishing class rooms and decorating them, as well carrying out maintenance work on the school premises. Principal Ahmed Mujahid said that they have begun handing over textbooks to parents and that their noticeboard detailing academic timetables and other events has been set up.

The school also assured that they have the required number of teachers and guaranteed an environment in their classrooms, ‘suitable’ for learning. A total of 1,400 students will be studying at the school in 2019.

The primary school in Hulhumalé, an administration division of capital city Malé, has also carried out significant maintenance of classrooms and is ready for the new semester, the school said.

The Ministry of Education said that similar preparations are being at schools in the out lying islands and that all preparations will be complete for when the semester begins on 13th January.
