Former President Abdulla Yameen is to be summoned to police headquarters on Sunday afternoon.

He is to present himself to the police HQ at 01:30pm on Sunday for questioning regarding an investigation ongoing at the institute. He received the summon chit on Saturday night.

Last month, Yameen was questioned over money-laundering allegations following which the Auditor General’s office submitted his financial statement to the police.

He was questioned over cash deposited to his private bank account during the Presidential Election campaign last September.

The money laundering case, in question, was filed against the former President in mid-September by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Bank accounts linked to him have been frozen since, with authorities seizing over MVR 100 million.

While the former President is to be summoned, his Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) has asked supporters to gather at the party office at 12:30pm.
