A Malé city resident has been fined for dumping trash on a public road.

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) announced this through a tweet on Wednesday.

Under the waste regulation, dumping trash onto public roads is prohibited and those found to be doing so can have fine imposed on them, ranging from MVR 500 to 100 million.

EPA director general Ibrahim Naeem had recently said authorities would use CCTV cameras and other faciltiies to identify those that dump trash in public.

The Waste Management Corporation collects and transports trash from all households, offices, cafés, and restaurants in capital city Malé and administrative divisions under it.
