Maldives Police Service (MPS) has on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old man for attempting to smuggle narcotics into an island in Baa atoll.

The arrest was made in an operation conducted by the Eydhafushi Police Station and Dharavandhoo Police Desk and the Police Intelligence Unit upon receiving an intelligence report of plans to smuggle drugs.

The 21-year-old male was arrested in the harbor area of Dharavandhoo island and officers seized 65 paper-wrapped packs filled with what was suspected to be narcotics.

Although the police has not revealed the name of the arrested individual, Kendhoo Magistrate Court has since remanded him by 10 days.

Eydhafushi Police Station is currently investigating the case.
