78 of the 166 cases reported in November had to do with general violence against children, the Gender Ministry has revealed.

The ministry said that this amount is 47 percent of the number of cases received in October, and that most cases have to do with negligence towards a child.

Of the total 78, 23 cases have to do with negligence, 21 have to do with sexual abuse, 14 have to do with physical harm, 11 have to do with psychological harm, 6 cases are of violence from other minors, one case of cyber bullying, one case of a child being witness to domestic violence, and one case of maltreatment.

Cases reported in October include barring a child from access to health care, education, as well as denying them travel documentation or identification.

The Gender Ministry reported in January this year that over 400 cases of child abuse were reported in 2017. The ministry’s website currently shows that 418 cases of sexual violence against children were reported last year.

The annual report for 2017 also shows 354 cases were lodged over physical harm of a child, while 181 cases of psychological abuse were reported. 308 cases of neglect were also reported.
